Abstract

This study examines the effect of institutional ownership on earnings management with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) disclosure as a mediating variable in basic material sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the 2021–2024 period. The study employed an associative quantitative approach using path analysis and the Sobel test. The research sample consisted of 32 companies with a total of 128 observational data. The results indicate that institutional ownership does not have a significant effect on earnings management, but has a positive and significant effect on CSR disclosure. CSR disclosure also has a negative and significant effect on earnings management and is proven to fully mediate the relationship between institutional ownership and earnings management. These findings indicate that institutional ownership has not been able to directly reduce earnings management practices, but can encourage greater corporate transparency through CSR disclosure.
